Dear Visitor, this language is under construction. The full menue will be avaliable soon.
Our farm:
Our small dairy farm in Shoppernau, Vorarlberg, has been run by our family for several generations. We have seven dairy cows, some pigs and two horses in our stall.
During the summer all cows graze on the pastures except for our „home cow“ that provides milk for our guests. Our valley is very flat but right next to us the mountains rise up to 2000 meters and more.
Our house:
Our house was built in 1994. It is made of wood from the local area and, at the same time, it is a low-energy house. On the roof there are solar panels for hot water and during the winter the house is heated exclusively by wood. It is surrounded by meadows in the centre of Schoppernau at some distance from the main street. Due to the fact that there is no transit traffic in the night, there is no noise and also during the day there is absolutely no danger for kids.
We have only wooden floors and for hygienic reasons we have not used any carpets on the floor. All our furniture in the dormitories is of solid wood and made to measure. For the beds we only chose the best mattresses for you. In the entire house there is no TV, however, radio can be provided if requested. You will find a direct telephone and internet access in every apartment. Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the house but on the terrace and on the verandas, one of which is set to the north where you will find a nice atmosphere to smoke. For your safety the house has a state-of-the-art fire alarm system (Esser).
Our location is well-equipped for babies and kids, which means that especially families with children are very welcome. There are baby beds, high chairs, napkin bins, bottle warmers, baby alarm, etc...
Once a week you can use the washing machine for free. In our large yard and on the meadows behind the house a variety of playing possibilities is offered where your children can play freely having their fun (a huge swing with a slide, some go-carts, a huge trampoline, bikes, pedal-tractors, etc…).
Within a radius of 300m you will find a big grocery shop (you will get almost anything you need), a small butcher’s shop, a bakery (opened also on Sunday until 9 o’clock), a local doctor with a pharmacy, a tourist office, a library, the local cheese dairy, a good sports shop (with newspaper, international press), a bus stop and our local church.
What can you do with your children…
…in the summer:
At our farm we have various tools for children (a large trampoline, various go-carts, bikes for children and adults). If requested we also organize guided horse-riding tours to the Bregenzerache riding through the woods and into the village. If the weather is bad the children can play in the stall and take care of the horses. Furthermore, we have a table-top football in our basement. In the evening the children can watch us milking the cows and are also welcome to help with haymaking.
In the village the tourist office organizes a program especially for kids with a large variety of activities, e.g. climbing for children, adventure days, hikes with the forester, etc…. Moreover, Schoppernau and its surroundings have some beautiful hiking trails that can be used also with children. The heated outdoor swimming pool is only a few minutes walk away.
… in the winter:
Schoppernau has a great ski resort (www.diedamskopf.at). The valley station Diedamskopfbahn is only 600 meters from our house away, the ski bus station is at a distance of 150 meters (the transfer from there is free). The bus will bring you to the valley station or to the neighbouring skiing resorts Salober-Hochtannberg www.salober.com, Damüls www.seilbhandamuels.at or Mellau www.berbahnenmellau.com. In the village there is a very good ski school for children right next to the valley station. Just behind our house there is a 30-kilometer cross-country ski run that can be used for free. For those who do not like to ski there is the possibility to use some of the well-tended hiking trails and also to go toboggan/sledging.
… in the fall:
In the fall the cows and also the farmers are back from their Alpine “holiday” and the tough mountain farmer life has to start againJ. The children can help with the work in the stall, with taking the cows to the meadows, they can ride a bike (in the valley there is a very well-tended biking trail), go for hikes in the mountains etc…
… in the spring:
After a long winter the animals are looking forward to grazing on the spring pastures. In May you can already go for small hikes while the higher mountains are still covered with snow. Horse-riding and helping in the stall is also possible.
Our holiday apartments:
Holiday Apartment Obstgarten
The apartment Obstgarten (Orchard) has 66 square metres and is on the ground floor. It has a double room, a three-bed room, a large kitchen-cum-living room which is fully equipped (dishwasher, microwave, oven,…) and a bathroom. In front of the apartment there is a covered terrace on which you can have your meals in the summer. From this apartment you will enjoy a view to the South to the meadow and the surrounding mountains.
Holiday Apartment Gräsalpe
The apartment Gräsalpe (the name of the mountain you see when you look out of the window) is on the first floor. It is equal to the apartment Obstgarten only that it has a large balcony instead of a terrace. From this apartment you can follow very well the life on the farm. It has 67 square meters.
Holiday Apartment Tannberg
On the top floor there is the apartment Tannberg (from this place you look to the East on the Tannberg mountain range with the Üntschenspitze). It has 62 square metres with a double room and a three-bed room. The kitchen-cum-living room and the bathroom are also very spacious; the WC is separated from the bathroom. In the centre the kitchen-cum-living room has a height of 4 metres and, as in the other apartments, is fully-equipped.
Holiday Apartment Kanisfluh
The apartment Kanisfluh has 62 square metres. Looking towards the West you will enjoy a beautiful view on the Kanisflu, one of our two “home” mountains. This apartment has two double rooms and one room with two separate beds, a large kitchen-cum-living room and a big bathroom.
The Arthouse: This house was built in the summer of 2004 and it has some particularities. Only to mention a few: it has a wooden roof – a shingle-roof made of our own wood; all the furniture is made to measure. The façade is also made with shingles, a tradition in the area of the Bregenzerwald. It is insulated with wooden wool and the floors are made of silver fir. The house is heated with the wood from the village. Due to all these aspects you will enjoy a very pleasant room climate.
Room plan:
On the ground floor there is a kitchen-cum-living room with 41 square metres – two large tables with a corner bench provide space for 15 people. In the kitchen-cum-living room you will also have a couch. Furthermore, there is a bathroom and a storeroom with a place to dry your shoes on the ground floor. The first floor has two double rooms, two three-bed rooms and two bathrooms.
On the top floor there is a sleeping cave for children with a length of 13m and a width of 2,2m. The house is thought to provide a holiday location for 2-3 families that know each other (maybe with the grandmother and grandfather as babysitters). This house has 227 square metres and a terrace with 30 square metres.
